Scott's parents finally received their mission call yesterday, but did not open it until 9:00 last night once all the kids made it to their house. We had Mindy on speaker phone to share in the excitement. Sorry Mindy I can't upload the video unless I completely switch out our computer, but hopefully these pictures capture the moment. :)

Mom is so nervous she doesn't hardly dare open it up (just so others are aware, Randy and Nancy did not specify where they wanted to go. With couples a lot of the time they can suggest a certain region and they usually get their request. So they were completely up in the air as to if they'd serve in the states or if they would be serving for 18 months in another country...)

Dad reading aloud, "Elder and Sister Curtis you are hereby called to serve as missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. You are assigned to labor in the..."

"Ecuador Quito Mission!" Mom couldn't hardly believe it as Dad continued to read on...
"In addition to your calling to share the gospel with nonmembers, you will also be serving in the mission home. You should report to the Missionary Training Center on January 5th, 2009."

Mom's face just says it all, and shows pretty much what the rest of the kids were doing! :) The neat thing about this mission call is that their oldest son, Mitch, served in a different mission in Ecuador 15 years ago, but the boundaries have since been reorganized so they may serve in different cities where Mitch taught as well!

"You're telling me I have to learn to speak Spanish?!?" haha It's always been a family joke that mom is hopeless in speaking Spanish. They lived on the Mexico/Arizona border for 3 years, where Randy picked up some but Nancy struggled. The kids would tease her saying, "It would take a bigger miracle than parting the Red Sea for the Lord to teach you Spanish." So watch out, the Red Sea will be once again divided as mom slowly learns their mission's language!

Congratulations Mom and Dad! We are so proud of you and are excited for this new calling to serve the Lord. We know you will be awesome missionaries! Thanks so much for letting us invade your space before you've officially left! Love you!

More of Mya and the Rob Day Show

So this may be my last post with pictures for a while since we are moving tomorrow... (I started this post Friday night but it was taking forever to upload the videos...) I figured I'd better get some funny movies and pictures up before I completely forget about them! In this first video you'll see Scott's side of Mya- full of energy!!! I don't know what it is but every night around 8 o'clock Mya becomes a complete spaz and does not sit still. She is running, jumping, laughing, talking, for a good hour straight. I guess it helps to wear her out in time for bed! But yes, she is her father's child!!! :)

The other day I told Mya to come help me put away her clean clothes. When I walked out of the room for 5 minutes I came back to this... Here is Mya's idea of putting away her clothes: So I tried uploading this video for over an hour and it was not working!!! Argh! It is so freakin funny! So I will just have to explain her new obsession. Mya loves to put on clothes, but she just doesn't take one off and put another on. She puts her head through the neck then proceeds to put her shoulders through as well until the neck of the shirt is down around her belly. She had 5 different shirts around her waist! It was so hilarious. Once I get our computer hooked up I'll have to post it later...

Last Saturday we decided to do one last party in our house and to say bye to some of our neighbors. We invited my bro Robert to come play his guitar and be our entertainment for the night. We had a good time. Thanks Rob for the show!

So like I said I had more I wanted to post, but this will have to suffice for now... We are all moved out and are closing tonight. It's definitely hard going from our own 2100 sq ft home to the in-laws 500 sq ft basement... I will try to post here and there, but I may not be as "active" as I have in the past. Sigh... I need a vacation!

So it's been a while since I've posted some pictures of Mya, so here's some recent fun ones I wanted to share. She is learning something new everyday. She is so much fun!!!

Mya loves to read her books. I often find her in her room just reading out loud to herself. She is so funny...

Standing Up For Marriage

I have a good friend that currently lives in California who is fighting with all her might to get people educated about Propisition 8, of allowing gay marriage in CA. I know it is important that we stand up for this not just because of The LDS Church standards as marriage between a man and woman, but to also stand up for it because of the freedoms it can take away. Sarah has a great post on her blog that I think everyone should take a look at. She also has a special blog devoted to supporting Prop 8. Please know that this law is not about taking away current rights for gay/lesbian couples, but it is actually defining what marriage is. Although I don't believe being gay is right, I'm not going to bash on anyone who is. If Prop 8 is not passed the Christian beliefs will not be tolerated. The gay couples think they need to define marriage differently to give them more "rights" but by doing so they will be taking away my rights, and that's something I'm not okay with! Please take a look at Sarah's blog to become more informed how this law could change not only California citizens' lives, but everyone's throughout the nation as well. Thanks Sarah for keeping us "outsiders" informed! We all need to know what this law really is about!

Can I clean your toilet?

While listening to Elder Uchtdorf's talk at the women's conference last week of losing yourself in the service of others, it brought back memories of my favorite example of this that I thought would be fun to share...

It was the first week of our second semester back at BYU-Idaho so I was already familiar with the campus and ward/apt complex. My roommates and I got a long great and we had many friends. We were all home from school on a cold afternoon when we heard a knock on our door. It was one of our neighbors with one of her new roommates we did not know. The new girl was holding a toilet brush and with a big grin immediately asked, "Can I clean your toilet?" I laughed and said, "What, are you doing a scavenger hunt or something?" In a cute Canadian accent she replied, "Osh no. I am just terribly home sick fer my family back at hoome and knew that service would help get my mind of 'em." I laughed so hard! This girl was hilarious! I told her we had just cleaned our bathroom but she was more than welcome to come in and visit. I think she still insisted cleaning something, but we talked for nearly 2 hours getting to know each other. After she left she went on to another apartment to see what other service she could do. From that time on Kara and I were great friends, and still keep in touch today.

Although my example of service is not the usual touching, helping an old lady, feel good story, it helps to remind me WHEN I need to be looking to serve. I know when times are hard, whether I'm going through a personal struggle or just having a depressing day, service is the last thing on my mind. I usually would prefer to veg in front of the TV or mope around feeling bad for myself, but through Kara's example I've learned those are the times I need to find something to do for someone else. By her silly offer of service not only did she relieve her homesickness, but she made a lasting friendship. Thank you Kara for your great friendship and for an example of service that I will never forget!

Husband Tag

1. Where did you meet? We met when my sister married his older brother. I was 13 and immediately had a crush on him that just never went away!

2. How long did you date before you got married? haha not long... We wrote letters the last 7 months of his mission. He got home the end of February, we had a date set March 17th, and married August 1st. So all in all it was 5 months (plus the first month and a half I was in Rexburg at school so we only saw each other on the weekends. Yes we moved quite fast!)

3. How long have you been married? 5 wonderful years!

4. What does he do that surprises you? hmmm, there's not very many surprises after 5 years :) but he does love to spoil me. He always goes above and beyond our "spending limit" for gifts, and if he is it buy something it has to be the absolute best of its kind.

5. What is your favorite feature of his? There are too many! I love his smile, his hot abs, and that he is super athletic

6. What is your favorite quality of his? I love that he is so friendly and can make friends with anyone.
7. Does he have a nickname for you? Sexy Mama or Hun

8. What is his favorite color? RED! (Major Ute fan here!)

9. What is his favorite food? I'd have to say anything at Tucanos- Brazilian Cuisine!

10. What is his favorite sport? He loves them all and is an allstar at any of them, but I'd probably guess basketball was his #1

11. When and where was your first kiss? On my parents front porch, the 2nd weekend since he'd been home from the mish (just our 4th day actually seeing each other)

12. What is your favorite thing to do as a couple? Anything as long as we are together. We enjoy watching, playing, or attending any athletic event. We love to play games and hang out with friends/family.

13. Do you have any children? You bet! The cutest little girl- Mya!

14. Does he have a hidden talent? Yes he can lick his nose with his tongue, pulling the "bitter beer face"

15. How old is he? 26 (although if you asked him he'd say 27, he always says a year older. He's weird) haha

16. Who said I love you first? I think he did in an email :)

17. Whats his favorite type of music? It depends on his mood. He likes rock, rap, alternative, and old country.

18. What do you admire most about him? His love for the gospel and for Mya. She is such a daddy's girl and he loves it!

19. Do you think he will read this? Only unless I tell him I posted a blog just about him!
